10 Things I’m Excited For

There’s always SO MUCH right around the corner and it’s hard to keep track of all the things I’m anticipating. For once I thought I’d collect a few of them in one post and share them with all of you.

#1 Prince Harry & Meghan Markle’s Wedding

I was a big, big fan of Suits for a while and Meghan’s role was one of my all time favorites in all of television. I’ve drifted away from the show the last few seasons but I’m glad for her. Also, like many Americans, I’m interested in everything that goes on with the Royal Family, even though I live all the way across the pond.

#2 Avengers: Infinity War

You’ve probably seen the trailer by now. I mean, it’s the number one trailer in the world. My first reaction was just absolute awe and even though I was excited before I’m beyond excited now. I don’t even know what to expect and I don’t want to try and predict anything because I just want to experience this momentous event.

#3 Disney’s live action Mulan

I’m so happy with this casting! Liu Yifei sounds like she’s perfect for the role. From what I’ve been reading she’s more than adept at martial arts… so I’m hoping she performs her own stunts. It’s so badass when actors can perform their own stunts.

#4 Kill the Farm Boy

Reasons to be excited for this: 1) the (phenomenal) authors, 2) the comparisons to Discworld and Princess Bride, 3) the genre of comedy-fantasy, 4) the pun on the cover, 5) the cover (and the title), 6) the description as a whole. Please go preorder and support if it sounds good to you as well.

#5 Sabrina the Teenage Witch

Besides watching the original show when I was younger and reading a bit of her comics around the same age, I’m a big fan of witches and witch-related TV shows and movies. Especially the dark ones (except when they’re too dark… a bit of a paradox, eh?). This sounds right up my alley and since I already subscribe to Netflix it’s a match made in heaven.

#6 Teen Titans live action TV Show

The first picture is officially in! And… I somehow completely forgot this was actually happening until now. Brenton Thwaites looks great as Robin (and I’m pleased they went with Robin instead of Nightwing) and I can’t wait to see the rest of the cast. As far as I know this will be airing on DC’s own version of a streaming platform and I’m going to guess that’s going to cost money, so that’s something to consider, but until then I’ll just sit in my excited chair and wait (im)patiently.

#7 Fantastic Beasts & The Crimes of Grindelwald

EEK! Newt my favorite favorite Hufflepuff to ever grace the silver screen! You look great darling keep it up! Okay, honesty hour, I hate Johnny Depp and I hate that he’s in these movies and I hate that I’m going to drop money on a ticket and part of that will go to him, or at the very least it won’t hurt him. So far I’ve managed to stay away from every movie he’s been in recently but I think this may be a deal breaker as I’m far too invested in the Wizarding World. When it gets closer I’ll be scouting for a good charity to donate to and I’ll keep you updated.

#8  Quentin Tarantino’s Star Trek movie

Never in my life would I have thought this would be a thing but I need it now. I love Star Trek. I love Tarantino’s films. I can’t imagine what this one might look like but I’m sure I’ll love it and I think it’s about time we had a big budget R-rated Star Trek film.

#9 Mary and the Witch’s Flower

This is the first film from Studio Ponoc (which I believe is a part of, or related to the glorious Studio Ghibli) and I didn’t realize it was actually a thing until yesterday. It looks as beautiful as all Ghibli films do and while I doubt I’ll manage to catch it in a theatre I look forward to watching it as soon as I can.

#10 A Wrinkle In Time

There are a million reasons to be excited for this movie and these photos are not the least of them. Look at these badass women! Look at them! This movie promises it will deliver a lot and while I put a bunch of trust in Ava Duvernay and Disney I am a tad worried it won’t be as good as I’m dreaming. But the release gets closer with each day and I am eagerly anticipating everything.

5 Things I’m Loving

To bring you up to speed with my life: I’ve been working A LOT which isn’t something to complain about because I’m lucky to have a good job that pays well, but it is draining regardless. I’ve also been hardcore cleaning my closet and moving my room around. I’m not good at leaving things be so I tend to change the set-up at least once a year, but I’m hoping this time the set-up sticks. Beyond all that it is Christmastime and that’s its own set of things that I need to take care of and a different set of stressors coming along with it. Amidst all this there are 5 Things that have either helped me destress or just made me really warm and fuzzy inside.

#1 Repuation, Taylor Swift’s newest album

Yeah, you’ve probably listened to this at least once (though it’s likely that you’ve listened to it on repeat for hours… or is that me?). It’s not my favorite album of hers but I am glad to have more of her music and while not every song may jive with me (looking at you: …Ready for It, End Game, Don’t Blame Me, Delicate, Look What You Made Me Do, So It Goes…, and Dress = just realized this is more or less the first half of the album, but you get the picture) the ones that do really hit their mark.

#2 The Greatest Showman Trailer & Music (released so far)

I did not expect to get so freaking excited for this movie but here I am just drooling over every little thing I can get from this film. While I may not have tickets for the premier showing yet, as soon as I get my schedule for the week of December 20th I’ll be swooping in and purchasing some.

#3 What We Do In the Shadows

This may have come out in 2015 but I only just watched it for the first time and I really enjoyed it. The reason I finally jumped on board was because Taika Waititi (one of the stars and the directors) also directed the new Thor movie (which I still haven’t seen… “shame, shame, shame”). It really did live up to my expectations and I can’t recommend it enough. Heads up if you have Amazon Prime: it’s free on their service. ALSO Jemaine Clement is in this and if you don’t love him you should learn to because he’s stellar in everything he does.

#4 Warmies (specifically mine: Tormund the Turtle)

As soon as I held my very own Warmies Plush I knew his name was Tormund (who is one of the best GOT characters fight me) and I adore him. I linked above to the turtle specifically as that’s what I (and one of my best friends, who was influence by my good decision) own and he’s fantastic. Basically these are adorable and soft plushies that you can microwave for a minute or so and they stay warm for a while. They’re particularly good for cramps and they smell like lavender which is so soothing to fall asleep to. If you’re not into stuffed animals there are also socks, a neck warmer, and a seat cushion that can do the trick for you. I seriously, seriously recommend them.

#5 Gilmore Girls

This has been my guilty pleasure show for a while now but since I’ve been doing a lot of cleaning and organizing and moving things I needed something for background noise. I hit my stride with this show and started taking in a season a day or so. While this is my first pass through bingeing it I can easily picture myself going back and rewatching it frequently. Also, Luke & Lorelai are very, very, very important to me, and I’m so invested in them it’s ridiculous (new OTP? yep, pretty much).

What have you all been loving lately? Any one else excited for The Greatest Showman or is that just me? Come on, be honest, let me know below!

A quick introduction to myself: My name is Sam and I’m a college student at a small liberal arts school in the middle of nowhere. Next year I get to spend several months in London studying at Queen Mary University and I couldn’t be more excited!

A quick introduction to my blog: Since I’ll be abroad I wanted to document it somehow. But I also wanted to document my life in general. A lot of the things here are going to be, no surprise, Postcards and Polaroids. There will, occasionally, be longer written posts and, hopefully soon, also vlogs.

Thanks for stopping by!

A longer piece for those sticking around: Besides Postcards and Polaroids I run a book blog, which I’ll just be linking, once, here. I want to maintain a distance between the two, at least for now. I’ve been blogging on and off for around five years and while I adore book blogging I’ve always wanted a lifestyle blog. Now, this isn’t exactly that, but it’s pretty close. I love the idea of documenting my life digitally and I’m so glad to be able to share it with you all.

When I post here I think you’ll notice two big things: one is that the Postcards and Polaroids will stand mostly on their own with very little added text. I mean, come on, it’s art after all. Then there will be more bloggy pieces and vlogs. I plan to start posting the vlogs after I arrive in London, which will be in early January, so don’t hold your breath at the moment.

Thanks for reading and I hope you stick around for more!
